With the political temperature of Pakistan rising every hour, 17th August 2014, the Day of Death of General Zia ul Haq, our PM’s Favourite leader, witnessed thousands chanting, invocating and singing rhymes of Naya Pakistan – a dream, illusion or Reality!
Imran Khan, Chairman Tehreek-E-Insaaf, held the mic with utmost aggression and belligerence, and unbolted his speech with the statement that this would be the most important speech of his 18-year-old political career. At that very moment, almost all of his supporters and analysts watching his speech live, knew that Khan would do either of these two things:
A Resignation from the National Assembly.
A march towards the Red Zone to take over the Parliament and PM House.
But, to the dissatisfaction and displeasure of many he chose to announce something most of the Pakistanis had no idea about! Civil Disobedience.
Civil disobedience according to WIKIPEDIA is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws, demands, or commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. Civil disobedience is sometimes, though not always, defined as being nonviolent resistance.
Now there are two important things hidden in this very definition of Civil disobedience. First of all it can be against a government, so for those crying lurid about the fact that it can be only against a foreign occupation need to revisit the dictionary or read this article for this reason! Second and the most important fact Imran Khan utilized by calling out for this movement is that this is a non-violent resistance!!! Many of us who wanting Imran to march towards the parliament, forgot the fact that if there is violence, ending up in an intervention by Military, in the form of a Martial Law, the political career of Imran Khan will end there and then! He will be an enemy of Democracy for life! Such is the nature of thinking in our region, alas!
Another very strong purpose of initiating this movement was to expose the Corrupt, dishonest, unethical, illegal, and rabid Monarchy of Sharif Government to the whole world! Unlike Pakistan, the loan lender countries of the world take this notion of Civil Disobedience very earnestly! Sharif government depends heavily on foreign aids and loans to run and to earn! If there is no tax payment by the citizens the government has no guarantee to give to the lenders for undertaking a loan! So basically you lose your credit in the eyes of all foreign loan friendly nations! This is a genius pressure-building tactic used by Khan! A bit unrealistic for us though, because we have little knowledge of how fierce the outcome of this movement, if implemented properly, can be!
The option of marching towards the parliament is always there and might be used later, but for now this was an excellent non-violent move by Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaaf!
There is a certain rage and concern about the fact that this movement will hurt the image of Pakistan in the eyes of International stalkers, but the mere fact that our corrupt and untruthful government presents forged figures to IMF and World Bank regarding our GDP (Remember TYPO??), is a far worse stigmata to our Name! At least they know we are fighting for our rights against a crooked government!
To all the Not-So-Happy supporters of Imran Khan and PTI, it is advisable to trust in their party and wait for the further developments, as strange governments end by strange movements!
